Youngsters to rock Byram

    Byram teens are getting ready to let loose. And the municipality is all for it. The Byram Parks and Recreation Department is inviting to area teens to take part in the second Summer Byram Rocks Teen Concert. The musical event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday Aug. 12 at Neil Gylling Park, on Mansfield Drive, right across the street from the municipal building. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Lenape Valley Municipal Alliance, the Sussex County YMCA and the Byram Police, will feature performances by Black No. 1 from Budd Lake and 15 Over. Teens from the Byram, Stanhope and Netcong are invited to perform as well in the Open Mic portion of the program. Performers can sign up by calling Joanne Browne, Sussex County YMCA Program Director at 973-209-9622 x 209. "(These concerst) seems to be well received. When we did the concerts over the winter our turn out was very good," said Mary Saarmann of the Byram Recreation Department. Young performers can recite poetry, sing, do a solo, a duet, or in a band. Whatever artistic activity a teens has we want them to show it off." In case of inclement weather, the concert will be relocated to the Byram Civic Center, the old Consolidated School, 55 Lackawanna Drive in Byram.
