There are different types of mouthwashes, such as:
Cosmetic mouthrinses: Their primary purpose is to help temporarily control bad breath, but don't necessarily play a role in reducing gum inflammation or reducing tooth decay
Therapeutic mouthrinses: They have active ingredients that can help reduce plaque, gingivitis, and may contain fluoride, which helps reduce tooth decay.
Mouthwash is not recommended for patients under 6 years old, as they may swallow a large amount of mouthrinse, which can cause nausea and intoxication (from alcohol content in some mouthrinses)
When selecting a mouthrinse, be sure to look for the ADA seal of acceptance.
