Dentistry Expert Dr. Jonice Thompson Withanachchi: Why Floss

| 25 Aug 2017 | 04:21

Flossing should be an important part of your oral care regimen, as it gets rid of a sticky film called plaque in between your teeth. Plaque contains bacteria, which feed on the leftover food in your mouth. In turn, it releases an acid which can eat away at the enamel and cause cavities. If it's not removed, plaque will harden into tartar or calculus. This can gather around your gum line and eventually cause gum disease. So be sure to floss at least once a day!! There are a variety of items you can use to clean in between your teeth, so ask your dentist to check which item would be the best to use for you!
