Boy Scout honoree

Curcio to be named Distinguished Citizen for 2011 Andover — Robert E. Mulcahy III, director of athletics at Rutgers University (Ret.) and former president of the Meadowlands Sports Complex will be master of ceremonies for the Boy Scouts of America’s Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner. This BSA fundraising event will be held Oct. 19 at Perona Farms in Andover and will honor William P. Curcio of Sparta, who will receive the 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award. Curcio is the executive vice president of Eastern Propane Corp. and has been active in many civic and charitable organizations. Mulcahy is author of "On the Banks," about his time with the Rutgers University Athletic Department. Under his leadership, the football program rose from the depths of the football bowl subdivision to achieve Top 25 rankings and bowl championships, the women's basketball program reached the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight in three of the last four seasons, including an appearance in the national championship game, and in 2006-07, the Rutgers Athletic program was ranked in the Top 20 nationally for its athletics and academic achievements. Event co-chairmen are Christopher P. Lynch of Nisivoccia LLP, and Robert B. Nicholson III of Eastern Propane Corporation. In a statement, Curcio said he is “very honored to be selected for the Distinguished Citizen Award. Sussex County has been home for me and my family for almost four decades and we are pleased to assist in improving the well-being of our home county. It is truly humbling to be included in the long list of involved and dedicated individuals who have been the past recipients of this prestigious award.” Past recipients include Gov. Thomas Kean, Robert B. Nicholson of Eastern Propane Corp., Phil and Mary Ann Deacon of Deacon Homes, Raymond W. Cordts of Lakeland Bank, Dominick J. and David P. Romano of Ronetco Supermarkets, and Jeffrey Quinn of Bristol Glen.
