    Victoria Yuskaitis of Sparta, a sophomore at Lycoming College, was recently awarded the college’s first Freshman Writing and Research Prize. Yuskaitis is a creative writing and archeology major and medieval studies minor. New this year, the prize honors a writer from the freshmen class who goes above and beyond in writing. It also promotes an example of scholarly excellence to other students. To celebrate the winning paper, Lycoming College held a reading and reception on Nov. 30. Yuskaitis wrote her winning paper about Joan of Arc, a personal hero. Yuskaitis was awarded a $100 prize from the Beverly Joyce Smithson Glad endowment of the College’s Snowden Library. Chelsea Galaida of Sparta recently graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Arts and Sciences
