Hampton Rotary honors Kittatinny High senior Elizabeth Ryan
Hampton - Kittatinny senior Elizabeth (Bessie) Ryan was recognized in January by the Hampton Rotary Club for “service above self” in her community. Ryan is the daughter of Barbara Backer of Fredon and James Ryan of Queens. Along with various volunteer community activities, including serving as a Sunday school teacher at the Yellow Frame Church on Route 94, Ryan is a peer leader at Kittatinny and active in the training programs in the school’s leadership group. Ryan is comfortable in front of audiences at school plays and behind the scenes as a member of production crews, having served as camerawoman for commercials, documentaries, public service announcements and exercise videos. She traveled to Costa Rica last summer as the official videographer for Kittatinny’s School of Tropical Conservation. She also enjoys creative writing and poetry and her selections have been featured in Tapestry, the school’s student-run literary and arts magazine. She is the editor of the opinion articles for the Kittatinny Chronicle. Ryan plays softball in the Stillwater/Fredon recreational league and does gymnastics at D’Marge Dance Studio. “Bessie’s involvement with after-school activities and volunteer groups causes her to have a very tight schedule,” noted Susan Kappler, Kittatinny principal. “Her excellent academic record, strong organizational skills and positive attitude helps guide her way through her hectic day.” After graduation, Ryan hopes to study film making in college.
