    Bloomsburg University Timothy Bird of Sparta and Thomas Joiner of Andover were among the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania students initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the interdisciplinary honor society. Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. Bird, a senior, is a marketing major and Joiner, a junior, is majoring in criminal justice. Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective honor society, recognizes and promotes academic excellence and promotes community service. Bloomsburg is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania state system of higher education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students. n University of Delaware Lauren Lewandowski, a 2004 graduate of Sparta High School, was recently inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta international history honor society at the University of Delaware, where she is a sophomore. A ceremony for friends and family was held April 18 at the university’s Trabant Center. Lewandowski is a history education major at the school, located in Newark, Del. The university, founded as a small private academy in 1743, now enrolls over 16,000 undergraduates and nearly 3,000 graduate students.
