Sparta resident chosen for American University honors program
Sparta - Stacia Young of Sparta, a sophomore at American University in Washington, D.C., was one of 360 students selected to take part in the university’s early identification program. Young is majoring in political science within the university’s School of Public Affairs. The early identification program is sponsored by the career center’s office of merit awards and the university honors program as an enrichment opportunity for academically outstanding sophomores. The program uses a series of skills workshops and information sessions to introduce students to major scholarship opportunities and to help them to identify, early in their academic careers, the skills and experiences they will need to compete effectively. Participants include all sophomores in the university honors and Frederick Douglass Scholarship programs, as well as members of the general student body who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
