Sparta — Tyler Colon, a camper with Summer K.E.E.P., managed to catch “Walter,” a striped small mouth bass, that calls White Lake home. Since all fish caught at White Lake are released, Summer K.E.E.P. kids are now on a mission to try to catch Walter again. According to one of Sparta Recreation’s waterfront supervisors, “We heard the children screaming and joined in the clapping over his catch, but we didn’t have the heart to tell him that the fish he caught is one of Walter’s nephews. Walter is just huge!” Of course, the hunt for Walter is just one of the activities that K.E.E.P. kids are involved in. Along with the “Walter Quest,” they spent the summer swimming, participating in Summer K.E.E.P. Olympics and rehearsing for their closing musical concert. Project K.E.E.P. provides enrichment opportunities before and after school, right in the child’s school, and does so in fourteen different locations throughout the county.
