Sparta - Sussex County Technical School students Ashley Grosche and Rebecca Thompson are semifinalists in the 2006 Library of Congress “Letters About Literature” contest, which places them in a select group of one percent of 7,000 contestants who made it to the semifinals. Grosche and Thompson entered the contest as part of an assignment in their honors English class. Grosche, a senior in cosmetology, wrote to Jerry Spinelli, author of Milkweed; Thompson, a junior in commercial art, addressed her letter to Blaine Yorgason, the author of One Tattered Angel. In their letters, the two students wrote about how their chosen author’s writing has inspired them. Grosche and Thompson, along with their parents, have been invited to attend a statewide ceremony in Trenton in May.
