SPARTA — Liam Gendron was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor held recently at the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta. Liam is a member of Boy Scout Troop 82 of Sparta which is chartered by the First Presbyterian Church. Liam’s Eagle Scout project was the refurbishment of the Station Park Sign. The project required Liam and his fellow Scouts to remove Lichen, moss and mold from the sign. Scrape and sand all the old paint off the sign. The sign was repainted and then relocated to its new home at the main entrance to Station Park where it now sits in a garden that was landscaped by Liam and his fellow scouts and friends. The project required over 150 hours of work and Liam would like to acknowledge all the hard work of his friends, family, neighbors and fellow scouts. BAE Systems, Grinnell, The Pond House, Mohawk Gardens, Weichert Realtors, PNC Bank, Virgina Moher and the Sparta Parks and Recreation, Home Depot of Hampton, and The Pizza Place all helped with donations for the project. Outside of scouting, Liam plays lacrosse for Sparta High School. He expects to study Computer Information Systems in college next year and ultimately would like to work in this field. Troop 82 is celebrating 52 years of continuous Scouting and service to the community this year. Warren Potter is the Scoutmaster of the troop.
