Troop 85 Court of Honor

NEWTON — At their April 18 meeting, Boy Scout Troop 85 of Andover and Newton held their bi-annual Court of Honor. Twelve scouts achieved new rank advancements, while six scouts were presented with 16 merit badges. Michael Cleary and Zachery Peschken earned the rank of New Scout. Michael Reidmiller earned the rank of Tenderfoot, 2nd and 1st Class. Other scouts earning the rank of 2nd Class were Sam Brothman, Kyle Penny and Nick Quartucci. Peter Heim, Billy Koenig, Connor Krieg and Daniel Wynne were presented their 1st Class rank. Star Scouts Caleb MacGray and Seamus Ryan also received their rank advancements. Eagle Scout Eric Dawson was presented with his Bronze Eagle Palm for additional service to the troop as well as earning additional merit badges. Merit badges awarded Michael Bell - Communications Richie Gerdes - Citizen in the Community, Citizen in the World, Communication, Family Life, Personal Management and Robotics Peter Heim - Traffic Safety Caleb MacGray - Citizenship in the Nation and Family Life Seamus Ryan - Citizenship in the Community and Family Life Mikey Woodrow - Communication, Music, Personal Management and Pets Religious medals also awarded Also presented at the Court of Honor were religious medals that were earned. Seamus Ryan was presented with the Pope Pius XII medal for the Roman Catholic faith. Vincent Paternoster was presented with his Ad Altare Dei medal also for the Roman Catholic faith. Daniel Wynne was presented with the Ner Tamid medal for the Jewish faith. All of these medals involved many hours of studying and discussion as well as community service projects specifically directed toward their respective churches and synagouge. Troop 85 is very active both within their organization and in community events. They meet every Tuesday night at the American Legion Post 86 on Yates Avenue in Newton.
