Young pianists perform in Lafayette

A scholarship piano recital was held on March 29 at the Lafayette Federated Church in Lafayette, N.J. The recital, which has been a tradition for 20 years was sponsored by the North Jersey Piano Teachers Association. Every year the participating music teachers raise funds for scholarships to support studies in music for their students. This year, 44 students of 10 music teachers in the North Jersey area participated. The two student recipients of the music scholarship were Samantha Bartling, student of Beverly Flormann who performed “Rhapsody in Blue” by Gershwin, and Amanda Schupp, student of Margaret Korczynski, who performed “Sonata 545” 1st movement by Mozart. Both winners have been accepted to colleges where they will continue their studies in music. Participating teachers were Betty Lange of Vernon, president and teacher; Dori Martin of Wantage, teacher and administrator; Dora Homann and Beverly Flormann of Sparta; Jane Berkowitz of Wantage; Ed and Margaret Korczynski from the Sussex County Music Workshop in McAfee; Irene Macormick of Hackettstown, and Diana Arnold of Wantage.
