Andover Scouts go racing

The Andover Borough Fire House was the setting for this year’s Cub Scout Pack 181 Pinewood Derby event. Each Cub Scout is required to design, build and paint their racecar; over 50 Cub Scouts participated in this race event, which was held on March 17. Mark Krawchuk, the Pinewood Derby Committee Chairman, was impressed with the large turnout and stated, “it’s great to see this many scouts and their parents work together to participate in our annual Pinewood Derby event.” Trophies were presented to each den and the overall pack race winners. Participants also competed for trophies in car design, construction, and detail. Andover Borough Mayor Shirlee Bollard, one of this years trophy judges, was impressed by the craftsmanship of the scouts and expressed the difficulty in choosing among the various entries the best in each category. Scout Master, Jeff Haines, thanked all the participants and volunteers for their efforts in making this year’s Pinewood Derby such a success.
