Animal detectives

GREEN — Brownie Troop 4082 recently came together at Jockey Hollow to become "animal detectives." The girls explored the animal world as it prepares for winter. The girls learned the differences between migration, hibernation, and dormancy. Even a few troop moms were shocked to learn bears are not true hibernators. Their long nap is more aptly called a winter lethargy because they are unable to lower their heart rate as fast or effectively as true hibernators such as chipmunks.
