Sparta - The Sparta Athletic Club hosted Junior Girl Scouts from the entire Sussex County area on Saturday, Feb. 4. Members of seven troops (720, 477, 831, 867, 945, 992 and 995) were treated to a free program created especially for them by Andy Ball, club manager. The theme of the program, called “Scouting for Fitness,” was keeping fit in all areas of life. The afternoon began with a warm-up led by Jen O’Ferrell and volleyball lessons taught by Ball and Steve Trentanelli. Instruction in tennis was provided by Joanna Chuckran and tennis coach Elise Donden. A punishing obstacle course was run by Lou Brown, Jen O’Ferrell and Chuck Laws. After all rotations and a cool-down were completed, the girls were counseled on keeping their lives balanced in all areas. “The afternoon was a big hit with the girls, many of whom had never had hands-on experience with some of the sports featured,” said Ball. “In the process the girls were able to complete requirements in several badge areas.” The Sparta Athletic Club is located at 115 Sparta Ave. For information, call 973-729-9141 or log on to spartaathleticclub.com.
