Performing will be the fifth and sixtth grade chorus, the seventh and eighth grade chorus, and the concert choir with selected soloists. Holiday favorites on the program include “White Christmas,” “Holy Night,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” and “The Festival of Lights.” The following Tuesday, the concert band will perform under the direction of Edward Cooke. Band members are in grades five through eight. Sounds of the season will include: “Tinsel and Holly,” Jingle Bell Rock,” “Feliz Navidad,” and “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.” The band will also perform some classics like: “William Tell Overture,” composed by Rossini and “High School Cadets,” by John Philip Sousa. In other Byram School news, Cynthia Chaladoff’s second grade incorporated the study of poetry into the autumn and Thanksgiving season. Parents were invited to a fall poetry festival, presented by the students. The children dressed as pilgrims and recited original fall and Thanksgiving poems. They also shared information that they had learned about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians. The poetry festival culminated in a “Thanksgiving feast,” with food by parents, and was the finale of the social studies and poetry units that were studied this fall.
