Byram - Under the slogan, “Buy a bear and show you care!” students, faculty and staff at Byram Lakes schools are taking part in a fund-raising effort to help find a cure for cancer. Many will be walking on the team “For Roses and Riches” in honor of a staff member and her son who died within weeks of each other from the disease. To raise money for the team, students are selling “buddy bears.” The students buy two bears for $5, keep one, and the other “buddy bear” will be sent to a sick child from their new friend. Students in Joan Corey’s class made a store in their classroom, and are in charge of promoting the idea (making signs), sales and collecting and counting money. Bears are for sale at the intermediate school during lunches. In the first week of sales, over $800 was raised.
