Byram offers winter programs for youth

    Byram - Winter youth programs offered by the Byram Parks & Recreation Dept. are scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 23. For young bowlers ages 6 to 14, “Bowling Buddies” will provide an opportunity to get some practice. Meetings are from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays at Sparta Lanes. Cost is $40 for eight weeks. Fee includes two games, shoes and awards. Children may sign up individually or in groups of three. “Theatre for Grades 3-4” will meet from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Byram Intermediate School. Cost is $20 for six weeks, beginning Jan. 24. Paulette Berges is the instructor. A new course this winter is the “Puppetry Workshop.” Children in grades 3-6 will sculpt their own puppets, create puppet costumes, write a short play, and present it to an audience. The class will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Byram Civic Center. The instructor is Lew Ayres. The cost is $40 for eight weeks. “Gymnastics” is available for children in grades 1-4 on Tuesdays at the Byram Civic Center. Girls and boys will learn tumbling skills from an accredited gymnastics instructor. Strength and flexibility are emphasized, as well as learning rolls, cartwheels, tripods, headstands and more. Section A1, for children in grades K-1, will meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. Section A2, for children in grades 2-4, meets from 5:15 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. Leslie McPeek is the instructor.
