April 7 At 10:47 p.m., while conducting a property check of C.O. Johnson Park, a Byram police officer observed a white Chevrolet SUV parked in the rear of the park with two occupants in it. In the rear of the SUV was a Yamaha dirt bike. The occupants, James B. Conklin, 25, of Hopatcong, and Robert T. Pease, 26, of Durham, N.C., offered conflicting stories about why they were at the park and how they came to be in possession of the dirt bike. When the officer contacted the owner of the dirt bike, the owner stated that Conklin and Pease did not have permission to have the dirt bike. Conklin and Pease were arrested and transported to the station for processing. Conklin was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, driving while suspended and being in a township park after hours. Pease was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and being in a township park after hours. Both were given Byram Municipal Court dates. Both were lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
