Byram Police
March 25 At 6:55 p.m. a Byram police officer responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Route 206 and noticed that one of the drivers involved in the accident appeared to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages. The driver, Robert T. Smith, 50, of Newton, performed several field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and transported to the police station for processing. At the station, Smith refused to take breath tests. He was charged with DWI, refusing to submit to breath tests and careless driving before being released to his wife pending a Byram Municipal Court date. His vehicle was impounded for 12 hours as required by state law. At 10:21 p.m. a Byram police officer observed a 1993, two-door, blue Chevrolet driving on Route 206 with a burnt-out lamp bulb. A motor vehicle stop was initiated and the driver, James K. Moore, 31, of Sussex, appeared to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Moore failed several field sobriety tests and was transported to the police station for processing. Moore failed two breath tests at the station and was charged with DWI and failure to maintain lamps. He was released to a friend pending a Byram Municipal Court date. His vehicle was impounded for 12 hours as required by state law.
