    July 24 At 5:08 a.m., Stanhope Police Officer Ryan Hickman was on Lackawanna Drive after leaving the Byram Police station. While waiting at the light on Lackawanna Drive, Officer Hickman's police car was almost rear-ended by a car driven by Andres Reyes, 31, of Newark. Reyes then turned right from the left turn lane and Officer Hickman followed him in an attempt to stop him. The vehicle headed north, striking the curb on the side of the highway. The vehicle stopped at the top of the hill and a Byram officer responded. After a short investigatoin, it was determined that Reyes was under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest. He was brought to Byram Police Headquarters where he was administered breath tests. Reyes was processed and charged with careless driving and D.W.I. Reyes was released to a friend pending a municipal court hearing. At 1:07 p.m., a vehicle was observed exiting the Shop-Rite parking lot onto Lackawanna Drive. The vehicle completely blocked the right turn lane. After the light changed, the vehicle was stopped and the driver was questioned about his identity after failing to produce a drivers license. The driver gave the officer a name and birth date and no information on that name could be found in the DMV computer. Further investigation by Ptl. Dellicker revealed that the driver's identity was Anthony DeJesus, 18, of New York State. had given him a false name and date of birth. DeJesus was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. He was processed and charged with hindering apprehension, obstructing passage of vehicles, loud exhaust and failure to exhibit a driver's license. DeJesus was released pending a municipal court hearing. At 7:35 p.m. Byram Police responded to a motorcycle accident on Rt. 206 in the area of North Shore Road. According to witness statements and investigation at the scene, two motorcycles were driving southbound on Rt. 206 at a high rate of speed. The bikes passed a vehicle on the right and accelerated. As the bikes approached North Shore Road, driver #1, Paul Maxwell, 42, of Starrucca, Pa., went off the roadway, lost control and struck the curb at the intersection of North Shore Road. Maxwell was ejected from the bike and landed about 50 feet south. Maxwell had severe external injuries and was flown to UMDNJ in Newark by Northstar. During the investigation it was determined that the injured man's brother, James Maxwell, 44, also of Starrucca, was under the influence of alcohol. James Maxwell was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where he was administered breath tests. He was charged with careless driving and D.W.I. and released to a friend. Paul Maxwell was also charged with careless driving and D.W.I. Sgt. Kenneth Burke and Ptl. Daniel DeWald were the investigating officers.
