    December 29At 10:21 p.m. the Byram Police Dept. received a call about a possible intoxicated driver leaving the Quick Chek parking lot. A police officer responded and observed a red 2002 Ford Explorer attempting to leave the scene. A motor vehicle stop was initiated and the driver, James E. Ulichny, 43, of Newton failed several field sobriety tests. Ulichny was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and during a search of his vehicle, several bags of heroin were found. The passenger, Scott A. Mooney, 42, of Lafayette was not wearing his seat belt and was found to be in possession of marijuana. Both suspects were arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. While there, Ulichny failed several breath tests and both suspects were released to a friend pending a Byram Municipal Court date. Ulichny was charged with possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, and possession of heroin. He was released on his own recognizance with $5,000 bail. Mooney was charged with not wearing a seat belt, and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. Ulichny’s vehicle was impounded for 12 hours as required by state law.
