Cardiology Medical Associates welcomes nurse practitioner

NEWTON - Cardiology Medical Associates of Northwest New Jersey has announced the addition of Maria Leda Bazsa MS, CCRN, NP-C, a certified cardiology nurse practitioner. She joins William J. Scarpa, Jr., MD, FACP, FACC and David S. Buyer, MD. “This is a new concept for us,” said Dr. Scarpa. “The nurse practitioner, or as we like to refer to Bazsa, a physician extender,’ has become a recognized part of many practices, but cardiology is just awakening to the possibilities that can be utilized with this addition to the practice. “Dr. Buyer and I are thrilled that Bazsa has joined us and raised our practice to another level,” he continued. “We are confident that our patients will welcome her and agree that she is an important addition to Cardiology Medical Associates.” Bazsa, whose interests have always gravitated to the cardiology patient, has served as a supplemental critical care RN in various N.J. hospitals. She has also served as a coronary care unit staff RN at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where she was responsible for the management of patients with various cardiac diagnoses. She participated in the follow-up care of post CABG and heart transplant patients, and has collaborated with physicians in the long-term management of cardiac patients. She is a resident of Andover, where she lives with her husband, Andy, and their two children. “I am excited to have the opportunity of working with Drs. Scarpa and Buyer in a practice that is also close to home,” she said. “I believe it is important to be a part of the community that presents patients to Cardiology Medical Associates. My duties as the physician extender’ will include medical diagnoses, initiation of patient-care plans, prescribing medications and ordering tests. All of this will be under the guidance of the resident cardiologist.” The doctors feel this is a good time to add a physician extender to the practice. The groundbreaking for the Charles L. Tice Heart Center for Diagnostic Services has taken place and upon its completion it will be an important part of Cardiology Medical’s professional life. Dr. Buyer has performed heart catheterizations for more than 10 years. This diagnostic tool is the single most accurate method of determining the health of an individual’s coronary arteries and will become available when the Center is completed. Dr. Scarpa has been a full attending physician in the Dept. of Medicine/Dept. of Cardiology at Newton Memorial Hospital since 1991. He is medical director of In-Home Health Services; past president of the Sussex Chapter of the American Heart Association; and member of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Medical Society of New Jersey. He is a board member of the Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation. Dr. Buyer has been an associate attending physician in the Dept. of Medicine/Dept. of Cardiology at Newton Memorial Hospital since 1998. Both doctors are certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. Either doctor can be reached by calling 973-383-3700. Their offices are located in Newton and Sparta, and in Milford, Pa.
