Catholic Schools Week at Reverend Brown
Sparta - Reverend Brown Memorial School found interesting ways to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The special activities included classroom visitations for new and current families; special days for crazy ties, socks and hats; and a serv-a-thon, in which the entire school created gifts and food for people in need. The school also had its first Grandparents Day. Students’ grandparents came to visit the school, and were treated to computer instruction, followed by a luncheon. There was also a special assembly which included Susan Loyas, from Pass-It-Along, who came to say thank you to all the students for their hard work and generosity for the serv-a-thon. She explained that all the donations from the serv-a-thon would be distributed to people in our area. This assembly also included a special presentation from Dr. George Corwell, who spoke about making choices to stand up for what is right. For entertainment, Ryan Opekium sang and played his guitar for the school, and the Liturgical Choir, under the direction of Mr. Krysztof Kowalewski, gave the opening and closing songs. The Catholic Schools Week festivities ended with First Friday Mass, celebrated by Msgr. Knauer, then a Friday afternoon Spirit Day Assembly for the entire school, which included members from the school band, cheerleaders and special awards. Student awards were handed out for physical fitness, reading, spelling, and geography. Twenty-two students received the President’s Fitness Patch. The teachers were also awarded special gifts. Five teacher’s names were chosen for a make-over courtesy of Designer Jeans Salon in Sparta. The week was filled with special activities to allow the students to enjoy and reflect on their school.
