Branchville - The Coalition for Healthy and Safe Families will host an all-day conference on Friday, Dec. 9, to educate the public and community leaders about the threat of increased methamphetamine use in Sussex County. The conference, titled, “Methamphetamine: A Deadly Concoction,” is being organized by the coalition’s Methamphetamine Task Force, following the third seizure of the dangerous, addicitive drug in the county this year. “Methamphetamine: A Deadly Concoction,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., Dec. 9, at the Selective Insurance Auditorium in Branchville. “Methamphetamine can be easily manufactured in clandestine laboratories, using store-bought materials, and is the most prevalent synthetic drug manufactured in the United States,” said Becky Carlson, coordinator of the coalition. “The ease of manufacturing ‘meth’ and its highly addictive potential has caused the use of the drug to increase throughout the nation.” Members of the community, including first responders, law enforcement, educators, service people and interested community members are urged to attend the conference to learn more about the risks and problems associated with the use and production of methamphetamine in Sussex County. Registration is required. The $20 registration fee includes conference materials, a continental breakfast and lunch. Registration is required. For information, call 973-383-4787.
