County Meals on Wheels takes part in national campaign
Franklin - Sussex County Meals on Wheels is participating in the national “March for Meals Campaign.” During March, the county group is asking the community to adopt a senior by either donating $20 towards a week’s meals for a homebound senior or volunteering time to the local Meals on Wheels program “so that no senior goes hungry.” March for Meals is a nationwide initiative to end senior hunger, sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. In Sussex County, local Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver a hot nutritious midday meal and a friendly smile daily to the homebound elderly, who cannot shop or prepare meals for themselves. Although the program receives some funding from government sources, all programs rely heavily on donations and contributions. March For Meals is designed to raise public awareness and to highlight the urgent need for financial contributions and for volunteer help. Local and municipal dignitaries will join the regular Meals on Wheels volunteers as they start their routes on March 28. To donate to Meals on Wheels, send checks payable to Sussex County Meals on Wheels to Meals on Wheels, 48 Wyker Rd., Franklin, NJ 07416. All contributions are tax-deductible.
