    September 29 Sally Amato, age 19 of Barryville, N.Y., was sentenced to three years probation, 270 days in the Sussex County Jail, pay restitution in the amount of $311.20, pay statutory fines of $405 and provide a DNA sample. She pled guilty on July 31 to two counts of theft, both third degree crimes, and hindering apprehension, a fourth degree crime. Amato admitted to driving her car as her co-defendant, Justin Pulis, reached out the passenger window and stole purses from two separate grocery carts as groceries were being put away in both cars. Upon arrest, Amato gave police a false name. Justin Pulis, age 23 of Port Jervis, N.Y., was sentenced to two years probation, 364 days in the Sussex County Jail, pay restitution in the amount of $311.20, pay statutory fines of $405 and provide a DNA sample. He pled guilty on July 10 to two counts of theft, both third degree crimes, and hindering apprehension, a fourth degree crime. Pulis admitted to reaching out the passenger window of a car driven by co-defendant Sally Amato, and stole purses from two separate grocery carts as groceries were being put away in both cars. Upon arrest, Pulis gave police a false name. October 2 Christopher Grieves, age 25, of Andover, pled guilty to two counts of third degree possession of heroin and motor vehicle tickets for DWI and failure to maintain lamps. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 17. He admitted to possessing four bags of heroin during a motor vehicle stop by Byram Police Officer Daniel DeWald on June 11. He admitted that he consumed heroin before operating, and that he had been pulled over because he had a broken tail light. He also admitted that on July 20, he possessed ten bags of heroin that were seized by Byram Police Sgt. Guy Mariani. Israel Cummings, age 21, formerly of Newton, pled guilty to third degree possession with the intent to distribute cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 17. He admitted to possessing ten bags of cocaine on July 6 in Newton and that he intended to share them with others, The matter was investigated by Det. Neil Casey of the Newton Police Department. October 3 Edward A. Friedhoff, age 45, of Greeley, Pa., pled guilty to two counts of Burglary, both third degree crimes. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 1. On Jan. 19, Friedhoff forcibly entered an unoccupied residence on County Road in Hampton Township and stole a large quantity of jewelry from the residence. The defendant then drove to Pike County, Pa., and pitched some of the unwanted stolen property over the Milford Bridge. The discarded property was later recovered by the State Police. Six days later, the defendant was back in Sussex County where he entered another residence on Kemah Lake Road in Frankford Township. The defendant entered the residence from the back, using a crowbar to force the door open. Inside the residence was a juvenile who had stayed home sick from school. When he heard Friedhoff breaking in, he ran upstairs to call the police. Friedhoff, realizing someone was home, attempted to leave the area. He was stopped by an alert state trooper shortly thereafter. In exchange for defendant’s guilty pleas, the State will seek an eight-year prison term at the time of sentencing. The maximum penalty the defendant would have faced if convicted at trial was 10 years.
