January 17 Stephanie Villarreal, 19, of Hamburg, pled guilty to possession of heroin. She admitted to possessing two bags of heroin following a motor vehicle stop by Officer Snyder in Franklin on May 28, 2005. She is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 6. January 20 John Space, 22, of Wantage, was sentenced to four years in state prison. He pled guilty on Dec. 19 to violating probation. Space had been placed on probation on Dec. 19, 2003, for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, theft and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance. He violated probation by failing to attend substance abuse treatment, failure to attend AA/NA meetings and failure to report to his probation officer. Andrew Rosenfeld, 21, of Hopatcong, was sentenced to three years in state prison, $1,524 in fines and a loss of driver’s license for one year. He pled guilty on Dec. 5 to possession of cocaine and to driving while intoxicated. Rosenfeld was arrested for driving while intoxicated by Byram Police Officer Daniel DeWald on Sept. 30, and was found to be in possession of two small bags of cocaine. Elizabeth Dadas, 36, of Rockaway, was sentenced to two years probation, two days credit for time served in jail, $1,205 in fines and a six-month loss of driver’s license. Dadas pled guilty on Dec. 5 to prescription fraud. She admitted altering a prescription for Ativan to read 90 pills when it was prescribed for 60. The offense occurred on July 8, 2005, in Hopatcong and was investigated by Officer Robert Haffner. January 23 Robin Devries, 35, of Highland Lakes, pled guilty to theft. On Jan. 3 she took a debit card belonging to her then roommate and used it to make various purchases without the cardholder’s knowledge or consent. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Peter P. Filak, 55, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to forgery. Between Jan. 1, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2004, Filak ordered magazine subscriptions and miscellaneous merchandise in the name of another person. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Kareem J. Barber, 21, of Rockaway, pled guilty to giving false information to law enforcement. On Nov. 18, in Vernon, he told Vernon police officers that he had been abducted in Dover at knife point, was forced to go to a condominium complex in Vernon, and was then robbed by his assailants. He later told police he had made the whole story up. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Georgene DiBenedetto, 48, of Franklin, pled guilty to possession of heroin and methadone. DiBenedetto was stopped for speeding and arrested for driving while intoxicated. Officer Kevin Nevin Mattessich of the Franklin Police Dept. found her to be in possession of two bags of heroin and a bottle of liquid methadone. She is scheduled for sentencing on March 10. Jackie DeGraaf, 20, of Sparta, was sentenced to four years in state prison, $1,360 in fines and a six-month loss of driver’s license. She pled guilty on Dec. 5 to violating probation, forgery and possession of heroin, DeGraaf had been placed on probation on Feb. 23, 2005, for burglary, and she violated her probation by committing new offenses, failing to stay drug free, failing to participate in drug treatment and failing to attend NA/AA meetings. She attempted to pass a forged check for $200 in Sparta on Sept. 13. She was found to be in possession of heroin in Sparta on Oct. 3. Shawn Matthew, 27, of Vernon, pled guilty to possession of heroin and driving while suspended. The car he was driving was stopped by Vernon Police Officer Keith Curry on July 29, 2005. It was discovered that the defendant was driving while his license was suspended. Matthew was arrested on two outstanding warrants. Two bags of heroin were found in his vehicle. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 10. January 24 Douglas Aigen, 39, of Vernon, was sentenced to four years in N.J. State Prison, to be served concurrently to a term he is presently serving for crimes committed in Bergen and Middlesex counties. He must pay restitution in the amount of $3,810.89 to two victims. Aigen pled guilty on Jan. 23 to theft and theft of a cell phone. On March 26, 2004, in Franklin, his then employer sent him to pick up furniture with a store truck and $1,100 cash, and he did not return. His employer contacted police the following day and, after being featured on “America’s Most Wanted” for other crimes he had committed, Aigen was arrested on outstanding warrants and extradited to New Jersey for prosecution.
