December 4 Michael Hughes, age 35, of Sussex, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, a fourth degree crime. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 22. He admitted that he did not have permission to enter the home of a relative and steal approximately $20 in change to purchase drugs. December 6 Clayton Erven, age 27 of Franklin, was sentenced to one year probation, 10 days SLAP and a fine. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 10 to Criminal Simulation, a fourth degree crime. He had exhibited an altered or simulated motor vehicle insurance identification card to a Sheriff’s Officer when stopped in Newton on July 26. December 8 Brett E. Vanderhoof, age 26, of Augusta, was sentenced to two (2) years probation and must perform one hundred (100) hours of community service. He must pay restitution in the amount of $2.766.13, pay total fines and penalties of $280 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 10 to two counts of theft, one a crime of the 3rd degree and one a crime of the fourth degree. On May 16, 2004 he and four co-defendants took merchandise and cash from a residence in Wantage Township. On July 27, 2004 he took a diesel fuel tank and assorted merchandise belonging to Saxton Falls Sand and Gravel in Frankford Township. Jonathan Davis, age 31, of Newton, was sentenced to probation for a period of eighteen (18) months. As a condition of Davis’ probation he is to serve 10 days in the Sheriffs Labor Assistance Program and 50 hours of community service. Davis was also ordered to follow the recommendations of his Domestic Violence Assessment Center evaluation and a substance abuse evaluation. He was also ordered to pay $155 in monetary penalties. He pleaded guilty on July 10, to terroristic threats, a third degree crime. Davis admitted to the court that on or about May 6, he had threatened to assault an adult female during a domestic dispute. Christopher Olszowy, age 21, of Hopatcong, was sentenced to two years probation, 10 days S.L.A.P., $1,205 in fines and a six month loss of driver’s license. He pleaded guilty on October 10 to the third degree crime of possession of cocaine. He was found to be in possession of two small vials of cocaine during a motor vehicle stop by Hopatcong Police Officer William Sutphen. William Steeg, age 35, of Andover, was sentenced to probation for a period of one year. As a condition of Steeg’s probation, he is to serve 100 hours of community service. Steeg was also ordered to pay $155 in monetary penalties. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 10 to contempt of court, a fourth degree crime. Steeg admitted to the court that on or about Aug. 22, 2005, he violated a condition of his bail set by Judge Honig in the Franklin Municipal Court. December 11 Luis Lena, age 21 of Sparta, was sentenced to probation for two years, 30 days in the Sussex. County Jail, resfitution of $170 and mandatory fines and penalties. He pleaded guilty on Oct.16 to forgery a third degree crime and theft, a disorderly persons offense. He admitted to forging a check in the amount of $50 as well as stealing $120 from the cash register of Mohawk Exxon. December 13 Two juveniles were sentenced after pleading guilty on Dec. 11 to third degree criminal mischief. They were adjudicated juvenile delinquents by the court. The juveniles, age 15 and 17, both of Sparta, were each sentenced to 12 months probation, on condition that they complete 40 hours of community service, have no contact with the victims or each other, submit DNA samples, attend school daily and follow home and school rules, undergo random drug testing, write a letter of apology to the victims, tour the Passaic County Jail and pay restitution of $2,992.45, joint and several, to the victims. In October the two juveniles spray-painted and scratched numerous vehicles parked in Sparta.
