May 25 Vincent Salzillo, 35, of Mastic Beach, N.Y., pled guilty to second-degree possession with the intent to distribute more than one half ounce of cocaine. He admitted to possessing just less than two ounces of cocaine with the intent to distribute it. Salzillo was found to be in possession of the cocaine following a motor vehicle stop on Aug. 13, 2004 by Sparta Police Officer Keith Hannam. Salzillo is scheduled for sentencing on July 14. May 26 A 17-year-old male from Wantage was sentenced to concurrent indeterminate terms at Youth Correctional Facility, not to exceed five years. He must pay $3,948.27 in restitution and fines and costs of $280. He pled guilty on March 30 to one count of aggravated assault for causing significant bodily injury to a juvenile victim, a third-degree crime, and to third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. He and three other juveniles and one adult drove to a house where the victim was. Armed with a baseball bat, the defendant struck the victim in the head with the bat, causing a hematoma. Bradford Mayne, 27, of Sparta, was sentenced to three years in state prison and $155 in fines. He pled guilty on March 6 to third-degree absconding from parole. He left New Jersey and went to Florida in order to avoid supervision by the Intensive Supervision Program after he had been paroled from state prison. May 30 Matthew Leon, 26, of Vernon, pled guilty to an accusation charging him with third-degree terroristic threats. Leon admitted that on or about Jan. 24, 2005, he had threatened to assault and kill an adult female during a domestic dispute. The case was investigated by the Vernon Police Dept. Leon is scheduled to be sentenced on July 7. Gregory Whritenour, 48, of Branchville, pled guilty to an accusation charging him with fourth-degree contempt of court. Whritenour admitted that on or about April 10 he had violated the terms of a temporary restraining order issued pursuant to the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act by contacting the victim at her place of employment, and that he had been leaving numerous threatening messages on her voice mail. Patrolman Scott King of the Newton Police Dept. investigated the case. Whritenour is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17. Frank Bruner, 28, of Sussex, pled guilty to third-degree possession with the intent to distribute more than one ounce of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school. He admitted possessing three quarters of a pound of marijuana in his home on March 9, and that he intended to sell a portion of it. His home was within 1,000 feet of the Sussex Middle School. The matter was investigated by the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force and the N.J. State Police. Bruner is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 1. Michele Kitchen, 28, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to third-degree prescription fraud. She admitted to forging a prescription for Xanax on prescription forms that she had stolen from a nurse practitioner. The matter was investigated by Hopatcong Police Officer O’Shea. Kitche is scheduled for sentencing on July 7. June 2 Scott R. Valle, 34, of Franklin, was sentenced to three years probation and one year driver’s license suspension. Valle pled guilty on March 27 to third-degree theft. On April 1, 2005, in Franklin, he took a van belonging to an acquaintance and never returned it. It was recovered approximately one month later. Edward Duerr, 36, of Newton, was sentenced to probation for 18 months. As a condition of his probation, he was ordered to submit to a substance abuse evaluation and follow the recommendations of the evaluation, to pay $155 in monetary penalties and to submit to DNA testing. He pled guilty on April 17 to one count of fourth-degree criminal trespass for unlawfully entering a dwelling in Hamburg without the owner’s permission. Melanie Griffiths, 30, was sentenced to two years probation, six months loss of driver license, and $3,425.00 in penalties and assessments. She pled guilty on April 17 to three counts of prescription fraud. Griffiths admitted to obtaining Vicodin in Hamburg on Sept. 2, 2005, in Sparta on Sept. 9, 2005, and in Hampton on Sept. 10, 2005 by calling in prescriptions and representing herself to be an employee of a doctor’s office.
