September 12 At 7:41 p.m. Sheriff’s officers went to the residence of Charles M. Segar. age 26, of Hampton Township to serve an outstanding Superior Court bench warrant for failure to appear at a probation violation hearing. Upon seeing the officers, Segar unsuccessfully attempted to flee the residence through a rear door and then retreated to the basement where he hid from the officers. When located and confronted by officers, Segar refused to cooperate and told the officers they would have to “shoot” him. Segar then lunged at the officers, striking them with his head and upper body. After a brief struggle, Segar was subdued and taken into custody, He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer (two counts), resisting arrest (two counts), obstructing the administration of law, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine), possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail, with no 10 percent option. The Sheriffs Officers involved were Detective Sergeant George Kately and Detective Michael Yanko. Neither of the officers was injured.
