Newton — The Sussex County Coalition for Healthy and Safe Families recognized the tireless efforts of retired New Jersey state trooper Wendy Cooney on Friday, Feb. 9, celebrating her work with the Coalition, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling. Cooney has led numerous Fatal Vision Goggle trainings to help youth group leaders, law enforcement officers and teachers as they work with youth in a proactive way to reduce underage drinking. Additionally, Cooney has worked on many other Coalition activities geared at reducing youth use of alcohol and other drugs, such as Red Ribbon Day and the annual countywide anti-bullying summit, Taking Flight to Change. She has served as a board member of the Center for Prevention and Counseling and continues to volunteer her services as an active member of the agency’s board.
