Course for first-time investors set for Feb. 28 at county college
Newton - Terms like “stocks,” “fixed-income securities,” and “mutual funds” are used daily in the news and on television, but many people have little idea what they mean. For those with little or no previous investment experience, Sussex County Comnmunity College is offering a one-night course, “Investing for the first time,” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The course costs $20 and will teach basic investment terminology, how to “find” money to invest, tax-advantaged investing and more. An optional home-study course guide is also available for an additional fee. “Investing for the first time” will be taught by Barbara O’Neil, Ph.D., a certified financial planner and full professor at Cook College, Rutgers University, She has taught over 1,000 classes and speaking engagements to more than 21,000 adult learners over the course of her career. Dr. O’Neil is also an accredited financial counselor, a certified housing counselor, and is certified in family and consumer sciences.
