Newton — To commemorate October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Intervention Services (DASI) will hold their annual candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 17, at the Sussex County Community College Theater. The Vigil provides a moment and a venue to memorialize those individuals who have died as a result of domestic violence, to honor those who have survived, and to support those who work to end this tragic problem. Survivors of domestic violence will be given a chance to share their stories. Speakers include Sussex County Prosecutor David Weaver and Sussex County Freeholder Susan Zellman. The DASI Full Circle Award will be presented to Marie and Rob Agnoli. The award is presented to individuals who have been seriously impacted by domestic violence and who have "come full circle" to give back to others who may be suffering now. The Agnoli's lost a loved one to domestic violence several years ago and recently sponsored the Strongest Man at the Fair Competition at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show to raise funds for DASI. Their hope is that the competition becomes an annual fair event. Candles are provided and light refreshments will be served. DASI is the state-designated lead domestic and sexual violence intervention services agency in Sussex County and provides comprehensive services to survivors - including emergency shelter, a 24-hour helpline (973-875-1211), counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, transportation, food pantry, and assistance in finding housing.
