Discovery of tear gas grenade stops Route 206 traffic for an hour

    Byram n Township police stopped a motor vehicle on Route 206 for an unlit headlight. The car was driven by Glenn Bagnuolo, 38, of Lyndhurst. While speaking with the driver, officers noticed a smoke-type hand grenade and an axe handle visible in the passenger compartment. Bagnuolo was placed under arrest for possession of the weapons. A further search of the vehicle uncovered an asp-type baton and a knife. The highway was closed for approximately an hour and traffic was rerouted around the area where the vehicle was stopped while the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad responded and investigated. The grenade was determined to be a CN tear-gas type grenade. Bagnuolo was transported to Byram Police Headquarters where he was processed by municipal court judge Richard Bowe ,and lodged in the Sussex County Jail under $15,000 bail with no 10 percent option, pending a municipal court appearance on April 10. He was charged with three counts of illegal possession of a weapon and one count of possession of a destructive device. Investigating offcers were Marin and Tierney. Besides the State Police, the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department and Byram Township Fire Department were involved.
