Dr. Alberto recognized for contributions to oral surgery

SPARTA - Pamela L. Alberto, D.M.D., gained election recently to the prestigious “Omicron Kappa Upsilon” Omega chapter in recognition of her work in rewriting the curriculum for oral surgery, which is being used as a model nationwide. Doctor Alberto, a member of the surgical medical staff of Newton Memorial Hospital since 1984, lectures nationally and internationally, primarily on the subject of dental implants. She was the first to introduce this procedure when she began practicing in Sussex County. From 2000-2002 she served as chief of the surgery department at Newton. When Dr. Alberto graduated with her D.M.D from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, there was only one other practicing female oral surgeon in the U.S. Her decision to become an oral surgeon was not customarily embraced by women. In spite of that, she felt this was her calling and that she would make a contribution to society as an oral surgeon. She completed her residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1983. Today she practices oral and maxillofacial surgery in Sparta. In August she added an associate to the practice, Kurt Notarnicola, D.D.S. A graduate of NYU College of Dentistry, Dr. Notarnicolaand subsequently earned his certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Seton Hall University. He is a member of the American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association and New Jersey Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology; Diplomate, National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, and a member of the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons. Doctor Alberto is director of pre-doctorial surgery and clinical associate professor in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department of the N.J. Dental School, UMDNJ. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American Dental Association and International Society of Plastic, Anesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition, Dr. Alberto is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Dentistry and Medicine. Doctor Alberto resides in Kinnelon with her husband, Gregory, and their son, Daniel, 15, and daughter, Catherine, 11.
