Newton - Drug Education For Youth is a youth-led, peer-focused anti-drug coalition with members from every high school in Sussex County. Students in eight grade are also welcome. DEFY meets monthly to share ideas about living a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. In their efforts to raise awareness of substance abuse prevention in Sussex County, DEFY members plan activities including public service announcements and presentations for younger children. They also volunteer at events including Red Ribbon Day and the Summit on School Violence, both hosted by The Center for Prevention and Counseling. DEFY meets monthly from 6-7:30 p.m. at 61 Spring Street in Newton. Upcoming meeting dates are: Tuesday, Aug. 15, Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 10. Monthly meetings include games and icebreakers, pizza, and guest speakers who talk about how their lives have been affected by substance abuse. DEFY members have the opportunity to ask our guest speakers questions and discuss various aspects of substance abuse and prevention.
