DVD history of Bertrand Island Amusement Park now available

Hopatcong Traveling back in time requires neither a DeLorean nor a British call box. The Lake Hopatcong Historical Society Museum is offering a trip to the past in DVD form with the introduction of the video version of “Greetings from Bertrand’s Island Amusement Park.” For more than 70 years the park was a summer destination for families. Just say the words “nickel night” or “lost river” to folks of a certain age and the memories come flooding back. Smaller and more accessible than Palisades Park, Bertrand’s Island was a necessary part of summer fun. When it closed on Labor Day 1983, it marked the true end of the era of Lake Hopatcong as tourist mecca. The DVD brings to life the rides, Kiddieland, the beauty pageants, the boardwalk, and the penny arcade. It is for sale at the The Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum within Hopatcong State Park and at local stores. The DVD is 47 minutes of narrated documentary and sells for $20.
