Sussex County - Eastern Propane and Duffy Brennan of Weichert Realtors joined forces recently to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina by helping to restore electricity to the area. Before determining what form of assistance to provide, Eastern Propane requested information from various agencies to determine what was needed most in the areas hardest hit by the storm. It was determined that the most essential and crucial need was the restoration of electricity. In response, Eastern Propane immediately initiated an effort to supply three standby emergency generators for a temporary community being established for the disaster victims in the Louisiana shipyards. In partnership with Brennan, as well as the Bollinger Shipyard Company in Lockport, La, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), arrangements were made for Eastern Propane’s donation of one 20 kw and two 10 kw generator units to be shipped to the Gulf Coast. “Because of my heartfelt compassion for the people of the Gulf Coast, I was compelled to find a way to offer assistance,” said Wendi Nicholson, vice president of Eastern Propane. “The need for electricity was found to be the highest priority, and I hope our donation will help in some small way to assist the recovery effort.” Family-owned and operated since 1938, Eastern Propane serves 15,000 customers throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, northwestern New Jersey, and southern New York.
