Engineering group honors local student attending Rowan
Andover The American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey has awarded The Bernard Langan Scholarship for Engineering Excellence to Matthew Pavelchak, 20, of Andover, a junior civil engineering major at Rowan University, in Glassboro. The organization will present the $5,000 scholarship at an awards banquet in March at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. To qualify for the scholarships, students must be U.S. citizens entering their junior, senior or fifth year pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-accredited engineering program or in an accredited land-surveying program. Applicants are judged based on their GPA, essay, work experience, recommendation and extracurricular college activities. The council awards up to five scholarships each year to students attending New Jersey colleges. Pavelchak won the scholarship that honors the founder of Langan Engineering Associates, Inc., Elmwood Park, who has served as a mentor to many young engineers. Founded in 1958, the American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey is dedicated to the advancement of consulting engineering and the maintenance of the highest ethical and technical standards in the profession. The council’s parent organization, the American Council of Engineering Companies, is the largest national organization of engineers engaged in the independent practice of consulting engineering, according to the group.
