Fifth graders “travel”

Sparta —Fifth grade students in Angela Feldmann and Lynnette Babb’s social studies classes at Mohawk Avenue School recently participated in an electronic field trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The electronic field trip, one in a seven-part series, was conducted via live video conferencing, over the Internet and on the phone. Students prepared for the field trip by participating in two map-making simulations, and researching the art of cartography. During the field trip, students were given the opportunity to ask questions of a map-maker either online or over the phone, to which they received answers immediately. One of the students, Amanda Esso, was featured live on the air. To learn more about the Colonial Williamsburg electronic field trips, visit http://www.history.org/history/teaching/eft.cfm.
