Firefighters endorse clean chimneys

As the cold weather approaches and people are both concerned about their heating bills and looking to spend some time before a roaring fire, the Andover Township Volunteer Fire Department is concerned about the safety of residents. The department conducted its first annual chimney safety seminar on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Two-time Super Bowl Champion Lee Rouson sponsored the event. “With over 70,000 chimney fires occurring annually, an internal camera evaluation is the only way to ensure that you are not at risk,” Chief Dan Crater, explained, noting he has extended the chimney inspection project to all area residents. “The inspections are being conducted as a fundraiser. The suggested donation for the inspection is $125,” the chief said. Crater assured residents, however, that if finances were a problem for any resident, the inspection would be conducted free of charge to help ensure their safety. A personalized autographed picture of Lee will also be provided to all participants. For more details or to schedule an inspection, call 973-940-0682.
