Byram - Frank Panek III of Troop 276 in Byram Township, was formally advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held recently at the Cranberry Lake Fire House. His accomplishment was the culmination of many years of scouting work and commitment and he was honored with letters of commendation from Governor Jon Corzine, Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen and other dignitaries. Mayor Skip Danielson of Byram made a presentation on behalf of the Byram Town Council. Frank has been one of the most consistent members of the troop in his years of Boy Scouting. He rarely missed a meeting, campout or summer camp over six years of scouting activity. He served in a number of noteworthy leadership positions including Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He held the lead rank in the Troop - Senior Patrol Leader - for two years before moving on to Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Frank’s Eagle Project was to construct an authentic turn-of-the-century outhouse alongside the Roseville School Museum in Byram. It required more than 150 service hours for the planning and construction and was completed this past summer. Along the Eagle path Frank had many enjoyable outdoor adventures. He had a special interest in historical and military campouts and participated in trips to West Point multiple times, Gettysburg, an air show at McGuire Air Force Base, and the USS Massachusetts in Battleship Cove, MA, among many others. Frank also made time for many activities outside of Scouting. He is a senior at Lenape Valley Regional High School, a two-year varsity letter holder with the football team and an officer in the Lenape Valley Chorus. He is president of the German Folk Club and spent three weeks in Germany as a member of the exchange program. He has been active as an alter server and in other activities for Good Shepherd Church in Andover, and he is a member of the Byram Youth Recreation Committee. Frank has committed to enlisting in the U.S. Marines upon graduation in June 2007.
