Newton - The children of Little Sprouts Day Care Center recently welcomed Freeholder Glenn Vetrano as the latest Celebrity Reader to its facility in Newton. Vetrano read several books with the theme of colors. A spirited discussion ensued between Vetrano and the children about the colors of various items in their environment. Vetrano, who has served as a Freeholder since 2000 and also serves as the Fire Battalion chief in Paterson, said he was delighted with the time he spent with the children. “This was really a great morning,” he said. “I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the kids, who are all really wonderful.” As part of its Even Start program, Project Self-Sufficiency invites Sussex County residents each month to read to and visit with the children of its day care center in an effort to instill the love of reading. “PSS is an agency that looks to improve the quality of life of women and children in Sussex County,” noted Vertrano. “In doing this, the agency improves the quality of life of everyone in the county.” Past Celebrity Readers include Linda Pinto, director of Knoll Heights and Knoll View in Sparta, and Debbie Lockwood, Newton Community Development director.
