Netcong — The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey will host a children’s concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the historic Palace Theatre in Netcong. in support of The Growing Stage. The proceeds will go toward the installation of an ADA compliant elevator in the theatre, and to support the ongoing programs for young people in the arts. The concert is being held in an effort to compensate for a reduction in state funding for the upcoming year. Performing in the event are: Nina Peterson who will be introducing work from her upcoming recording aimed specifically at young people, Steve Graham who was a member of The Growing Stage’s performing artist repertory company last season, and Steve Leonard. Graham and Leonard have teamed together as performers and songwriters, recording with such groups as Mindface, Fat Raleigh, and Buzz Heavy. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season this year, The Growing Stage is a center for the performing arts that engages a community of professional actors and artists, community players, students, teachers and families who share in the wonder and enriching environment of theatre. As the only theatre solely dedicated to young audiences in New Jersey with its own facility, the organization’s mission remains to nurture the development of the performing arts through education, and to create, produce, and perform works that engage the entire family. Seeking to be a model of excellence in theatre for young audiences, The Growing Stage strives to develop new initiatives through the arts, on both the stage and in the classroom, that will enhance and benefit the lives of young people across the state. The restoration of the historic Palace Theatre, which was purchased by The Growing Stage in 1995, has been recognized by both the state and local governments as a catalyst in the economic revitalization of Netcong.
