Hobb Engler victorious in All Star tourney

    Byram - Byram Hobb Engler won two straight games in the 8/9 year old District 20 All Star tournament on Saturday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 12. Hobb Engler defeated Lakeland, 16-6, in the Saturday game. The team was led by the pitching of Adam Varian, who picked up the win, and Patrick Togno, who closed out the last inning in relief. On offense, Varian, Frank Cutrone and Michael Conrad combined for seven hits and seven RBI, and Zachary Kronenfeld scored three runs. Lakeland was led by Justin Anderson, who had a double and two RBI. On Wednesday, Hobb Engler defeated Lackawanna, 8-7, on Nick Sabatini’s game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hobb Engler was led by Michael Conrad, who pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters, and David DelSontro, whose hard single scored the tying run and set up Sabatini’s winning at bat. Lackawanna was led by Ethan Koontz, who had two hits and scored two runs.
