Kindergarten students anticipate future growth and development

Byram — On Thursday, Sept.28, the students from Mrs. Pickett’s kindergarten class at Byram Lakes Elementary School planted a garden in anticipation of the spring. Traditionally, the subject of seeds and plants is taught in May or June. However, this gardening activity involved planting bulbs that, as the children learned, must be planted in the fall. After learning about bulbs and how to plant them using a model in the classroom, the children were ready to venture outside. With the help of some parents, they planted 100 daffodil bulbs by the school’s entrance sign. The students placed the bulbs in holes, covered them with soil and gave them a good watering. The Trumpet Narcissus daffodils are a perennial that bear yellow flowers and will bloom in early- to mid- spring. The children hope to make a stepping stone this spring to add to their garden.
