Kittatinny student artist takes first place in state-wide contest

Newton Kittatinny senior Rebecca Meskowitz has won first place in an art contest sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Rebecca is the daughter of Richard and Lillian Meskowitz, who are residents of Stillwater. The contest featured artwork from more than 400 middle school and high school students throughout New Jersey, who were charged with creating and submitting an original piece of hand-drawn artwork that complemented the state’s ongoing community outreach campaign. Entries were evaluated on the following criteria: theme depiction, overall appearance, originality, design and execution. The theme of the Teen Media Contest was, “Illustrate an important lesson taught to you by a parent that you want to pass along to your child when you grow up.” Using her neighbors as models, Rebecca depicted a father and child praying together. Rebecca was honored at an official Awards Ceremony, held in May at the New Jersey State House Annex in Trenton. She received a U.S. Savings Bond valued at $300, a Plaque of Achievement and day passes for two to Great Adventure, the Six Flags theme park located in Jackson.
