Kittatinny student is Wallenberg honors program finalist

Newton - Senior Jodi Dolan, the Kittatinny Regional High School nominee for the Wallenberg honors program, was selected as a finalist on May 4 at Parsippany Hills High School. The program recognizes the extraordinary acts of a select group of middle- and high-school students, who hold a vision of a better world. The program is named for Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish businessman, diplomat, and world traveler, who was credited with leading the rescue of 100,000 Jews from certain death at the hands of the Nazis in Hungary in 1944. Aside from his leadership, Wallenberg is remembered for his courage, his compassion for his fellow man, and his vision of a better future for the young people of his day. Today, the spirit of Raoul Wallenberg lives on through this foundation which bears his name. To be selected, a student must meet three criteria. The student must make a positive difference by fostering respect and compassion for others by consistently demonstrating personal responsibility and moral courage in the school or community. The student must also be recognized by adults and peers as an individual who stands apart from others through demonstration on a consistent basis of the concept of “the power of one,” and take positive action in their daily experiences. Finally, the student, must perform actions that, in the opinion of the selection committee, demonstrate a commitment to the principles of courage and compassion. As a Wallenberg finalist, Dolan represents the New Jersey school population of 120,000 students.
